Communications Analyst

Under the guidance and direct supervision of the Senior Partnerships, Resource Mobilization, Advocacy and Strategic Communications Advisor, the Communications Analyst implements the corporate communications strategy, designs, manages and facilitates the implementation of the Country Office communications and publication strategies with a view to influence the development agenda, to promote public and media outreach and to mobilize political and financial support for UNDP. 
The Communications Analyst is part of the partnership, advocacy and strategic communication team.  He/she is responsible for positioning UNDP’s work in priority areas nationwide through mainstream media, multimedia and social media platforms, with a special emphasis on garnering coverage in national and international media outlets. He/she is responsible for drafting and editing communication materials. He/she is responsible for developing and implementing campaigns and press launches in coordination with relevant staff. He/she is involved in the public information aspects of managing reputational risk. He/she also works in close collaboration with the Programme and Operations teams, staff of other UN Agencies, UNDP Communications Group staff and Government officials, local and international media, subject matter experts, multi-lateral and bi-lateral donors and civil society ensuring successful UNDP communication strategy implementation

Graphic design, web-design, audio visual and translation services sourced and managed.
  • Communications and advocacy need assessments for Country Office (projects, country programme and corporate change initiatives, etc.) conducted.
  • Communications and outreach strategy based on the corporate communications strategy elaborated.
  • Constructive and timely advice on inclusion of communications and advocacy components into overall UNDP Jordan programmes’ design and implementation.
  • Publications strategy and plan prepared.
    • Storylines for publications and substantive articles contributing to debates on key development issues developed and promoted.
    • All CO publication activities, including content management, norms for publishing, design, liaison with printers and other suppliers to oversee production and supervision of publications dissemination coordinated and managed.
    • Regional communications advisors and HQ regularly updated and consulted.
    • Support to “One UN” branding and communication efforts thru all programme interventions.
    • Promotional activities to position UNDP as a leader within the development space.
    • Increased coverage and understanding of the UNDP’s work in the country or practice area through development and maintenance of media contacts and providing newsworthy information to national public and donors.
    • Formatting, packaging and submission of programme initiatives for donor review in close collaboration with programme staff.
    • Development and maintenance of close contacts with government officials, multilateral and bilateral donors, civil society and private sector for implementation of the communications strategy, organization of roundtable discussions, press conferences, briefing sessions, interviews, launches, etc.
    • Regular newsletter to donors, donor reports, civic education and community awareness where appropriate to support projects.
    • Ensured access for journalists to subject matter experts.
    • Journalists and media outlets covering all media contacts established and regularly updated.
    • Mass media partnerships created to ensure effective visibility of programme interventions and advocacy on core UN principles and values.
    • UNDP’s social media footprint increased.
    • Creation and promotion of campaigns to local and regional media that position UNDP and influences the development agenda based on current programme and new initiatives;
    • Management, promotion and dissemination of corporate advocacy materials for launching flagship initiatives and publications such as the Human Development Report.
    • Creation, promotion and maintenance of public information campaigns on UNDP activities, results of SDGs, UN Reform, etc.
    • Supervise the production of films and radio reporting in order to share information, promote major activities and showing knowledge and results.

Education:
Master's degree in media relations, journalism, publishing. First university degree with a relevant work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree
Experience:
Up to 2 years of relevant experience at the national or international level in public relations, communications or advocacy. Experience in the usage of computers and office software packages, good knowledge and experience in handling of web-based management systems. Previous experience with a multilateral or international organization is helpful but not mandatory
Language Requirements:
Fluency in Arabic and English. Other official language of the UN will be desirable
