Background
Can’t Wait to Learn (CWTL) proposes new (cost-) effective solutions to the urgent challenges facing education for children in emergencies. By utilizing innovative technological solutions with a focus on serious gaming, CWTL builds on concepts which have been successfully piloted in Sudan (e-Learning Sudan). CWTL has ambitions to increase the number of children with access to quality education in mathematics in areas affected by conflict in Africa and the Middle East, including in Jordan and Lebanon. The CWTL team, including its technical partners, will work together to digitize the Jordanian and Lebanese curriculum onto tablets, which will be used by children with guidance from a trained facilitator. In addition to mathematics, reading and psychosocial well-being-focused materials will be introduced to the CWTL portfolio during 2017. Developing fresh, interactive materials based on the national curricula and creating effective partnership structures to distribute these, creates new opportunities for making education accessible to those children who have been excluded. By facilitating their access to an effective and innovative learning tool, the CWTL programme seeks to increase children's resilience and support their educational (re)integration and progression.
In Jordan, the CWTL programme implementation will run from August 2018 – Januray2019 in 31 schools/learning spaces. This will consist of 28 MoE schools, 1 UNRWA school and 2 UNICEF learning centres. Of these schools, 26 MoE schools will be included in a Randomised Controlled Trial intervention in order to rigorously assess the impact of CWTL schools’ vs non-CWTL schools, in order to provide evidence for potential scale up in future.
Globally the programme is led by War Child Holland. War Child UK is the programme lead in Jordan. In Jordan, programme implementation will involve both local and international partner organisations, as well as self-implementation.
General objective of the role
The Field Education Supervisor role is responsible for the overall technical support for the teachers at MoE school in Zarqa governate including Azraq camp and 1 of UNRWA’s school, Shobak and Irbid.
Position in the organisation
The Field Education Supervisor is part of WCUK’s Management Department reporting to the Deputy Project Manager (DPM) and technically to the Technical Education Advisor in Amman.
Responsibilities:
- Identify school and teachers need; provide technical assistance and training to MoE teachers whenever needed;
- Provide daily mentoring visit to MoE school where program is implemented (Zarqa, Irbid and Shobak);
- To effectively and actively work with Ministry of Education (Field directorates and schools teachers) to ensure best response to their questions, challenges and better implementation at school level;
- Ensure technical buy-in and support from all stakeholders at schools in Ministry of Education;
- Engage in any needed technical discussions with MoE field staff (teachers, principals, supervisors, …);
- Report any technological issues directly to the IT and Logistic officer;
- Assist teachers’ performance at class level;
- Coordinate with the research team during data collection;
- Attend meetings at the main office in Amman as required;
- Collect data form schools and Field directorates and fill reports, forms, tools as required;
- Attend the training and professional learning communities and capacity building courses;
- Support in generating accounts for teachers via CWtL portal;
- Generate CWTL IDs for students via CWtL portal;
- Coordinate with the schools and IT officer to ensure best practice of data upload into the portal;
- Support teachers in obtaining consent from the involved children in CWtL;
- Support MEAL assistant on following up on students’ attendance sheets to ensure its filled daily;
- Ensuring that tablets are session per session charged, and accessories are safe in the storage cabinet;
- Providing monthly employee attendance sheet to the DPM;
- To report in an effective time manner any issue related to the game directly to DPM;
- Respond to any other requested tasks by the hiring manager.
Result: Effective educational technical support is provided to schools and learning centres in Jordan in such a way that issues are always resolved in a timely manner and technical activities for all projects are done on time in such a manner that WCH procedures and donor regulations are followed.
Knowledge and Experience
Bachelor’s degree of education or any relevant academic background;
Knowledge of school systems preferably in Zarqa;
8 years of teaching experience of which at least 2 years must have been in supervision of teaching and/ or administrative position at MoE schools.
Skills and Competencies
Knowledge of working experience at MoE schools in Zarqa.
Planning, analytical and organizational capabilities;
Strong planning and organizational skills to handle multiple tasks with deadlines;
Fluent in Arabic;
Good computer skills;
Excellent communication skills and problem-solving ability;

Responsibilities:
The purpose of this job is to assist in the successful completion of the CWTL research project in Jordan, mainly through the supervision of the collection of data, quality assurance, and conducting in-field data checks.
The research field officer will support and supervise, along with the Research Manager, a team of research assistants to collect qualitative and quantitative data for this project. The main tasks of the job include overseeing research assistants during collection of consent and demographic, educational and psychosocial data, and conduct regular data checks. Both the research field officer and research assistants will receive pre-project training in the specific research procedures and ethical standards, and on-the-job mentoring by the research manager and research coordinator.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Coordinate the research participant recruitment and consent processes with the Deputy Project Manager
2. Supervise consent and assent gathering process
3. Coordinate logistics and schedules with the relevant teams
4. Supervise timeliness and quality (including ethics) of data collection at all data collection points including demographics, baseline and endline
5. Conduct data checks, quality improvement, and follow up with research assistants regarding data as required in preparation of data cleaning and analysis
6. Provide regular and constructive feedback on RAs as required and capacity building?
7. Responsible for upload of tablet-collected data and safe transportation of paper-collected data from the area where data was collected to the place where it will be stored. In this period, the research field officer will prevent data loss and/or damage as much as possible.
8. Assisting with uploading assessment data from tablets to servers
9. Communicate with Research Manager, Research Coordinator, and Research Assistants actively and constructively, providing updates and regular feedback.
10. Training, supervision and reporting
- Participate and support in research training and refresher training as required
- Participate in regular supervision and debriefing meetings as required
- Report any adverse events promptly
Requirements
Essential
- Has completed a bachelor degree in Education, the Health Sciences (Medicine, Nursing, Public Health) or Behavioral and Social Sciences (Psychology, Social Work, Counselling) or a related field
- Fluent in Arabic, oral and written
- Good English language skills, oral and written
- Experience in managing teams
- At least 1 year of previous experience in research and/or monitoring and evaluation
- Sound judgment and sense of responsibility
- Ability to operate independently with minimal supervision
- Available fulltime, committed to invest at least 6 months in contributing to our research agenda in Jordan
- Willing and able to work sometimes odd hours, e.g., starting early/finishing late, working sometimes at weekends.
- Willing and able to travel between CWTL sites within Zarqa and between Zarqa (including Azraq camp) and Amman.
- Previous experience working with vulnerable groups, especially children.
Desirable
- Good MS Excel and Word skills
- Previous research experience in education and/or health
