English Language Teacher - MYP
Job Title:
Secondary MYP English Language& Literature Teacher
Scope and purpose of the job:
In order to fill this role effectively, the successful candidate will need to have a diverse range of qualities, competencies and experience. He/she should be an outstanding teacher, learner, motivator and communicator, with excellent interpersonal skills in order to provide professional expertise, and high quality teaching and learning. Moreover, he/she should be adaptable, creative and innovative and should be able to collaborate with colleagues in the division and in the school.
The role assumes professional responsibility for providing, leading and facilitating diverse and effective learning experiences using a range of methods in a supportive and positive climate across the secondary school. The successful candidate should be an adaptable and inspiring educator, with the ability to deliver a coherent, balanced, integrated, inquiry-based programme and should be capable of preparing students for international programmes in a stimulating, challenging and well-organised learning environment.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Teach MYP Language Literature classes
- Work independently and collaboratively to design and refine curriculum
- Design, prepare and deliver a high quality curriculum for grades within the IB MYP framework to suit the individual needs of all students
- Nurture meaningful relationships with students and provide the individual attention they need
- Stay current with the IB/MYP curriculum
- Maintain records of student work and progress through Learning/Language Profiles
- Contribute to the enrichment of learning engagements
- Monitor ongoing progress and assess Language Literature students
- Monitor students’ performance to enhance their understanding and master skills
- Monitor students’ progress through effective assessment
- Communicate regularly and constructively with students
- Set high expectations for student’s behavior, establishing and maintaining a good standard of behavior management through well focused teaching and through positive and productive relationships
Other responsibilities
- Participate in the school’s staff development program
- Work as a member of a team, positively contributing to effective working relations within the school
- Communicate, where necessary with parents and external bodies, following school policies
- Attend Open Evenings, workshops, Student-Led Conferences
- Attend IB authorized training and stay current with all relevant changes to the IB guide
- Take on the responsibilities of a Year Coordinator or a Homeroom teacher upon request
Qualifications:
- University degree in English Language and Literature, Languages or Teaching English (or equivalent)
- ESL qualifications and/or training in language and literacy teaching are an asset
- Native English speaker or fluency and competency in both written and spoken English
- IB experience and training is a plus.
- Computer skills at a level that permits creative use of technology in the classroom
