Media & Communication Officer

Rationale:

The Jordanian National Commission for Women (JNCW) is the leading national organization responsible for all issues related to women’s advancement in Jordan. Established by Cabinet Decree in 1992 and chaired by HRH Princess Basma Bint Talal. The JNCW seeks to instill gender equity in Jordan through the implementation of a wide range of projects, often partnering with leading international organizations such as the United Nations.

To support the Jordanian government in accelerating the passage of the National Action Plan, the JNCW is recruiting a UNSCR 1325 Secretariat, to coordinate all efforts related to UN Security Council Resolution 1325. The Media & Communication Officer will support the 1325 Secretariat in implementing all activities related to the Communication Strategy of 1325 JONAP, on Women, Peace and Security. Along with, managing the different social media platforms for the project.

The project is a joint effort between the JNCW and UN Women to support dialogue and engagement on UNSCR 1325. The Media & Communication Officer will work under the supervision of the Project Manager, with technical guidance from UN Women. In addition to cooperating with the contracting communication company. The Media & Communication Officer will play a critical role in implementing the existing action plan of 1325 Communication Strategy, and designing new activities, tools, products and deliverables, to include strategies for visualizing/conveying information to a wide variety of audiences. Besides, managing the different social media platforms for the project and managing all of the internal and external communication and networking efforts for the project.  

Scope of work and deliverables:

Collaborate with project team to develop and execute the action plan for the Communication Strategy on time and in coordination with JNCW Communication and Advocacy Unit.
Develop and implement outreach strategies in line with the Communication Strategy for the purpose of expending the awareness on WPS in coordination with JNCW Communication and Advocacy Unit and UN Women.
Develop, update and ensure content on 1325 WPS social media different platforms is up to date and maintain a consistent stream of stories for the implementation of the JONAP and coordinate the work with the Project Manager and the team accordingly.
Develop a quarterly communications report including relevant analytics and highlights in coordination with JNCW Communication and Advocacy Unit
Draft statement, blog posts, reports, and press release.
Monitor media coverage.
Attend and cover the events of the project.
Support the team to create messaging for social media
Distribute press releases to different media agencies and platforms.   
In coordination with the JNCW Communication and Advocacy Unit and UN Women Communication team, ensure that JONAP branding and visibility is in compliance with JNCW and donor requirements.
Work closely with the project team to achieve the activities of annual work plan.
Any other duties related to the nature of the job and assigned by the Project Manager.
Duration and duty station:

The duration of the assignment will be till the end of 2020, with the possibility of an extension at the project’s end. The duty station will be Amman, Jordan with travel to other governorates for field operations. The Media & Communication Officer is expected to carry out his/her work at the JNCW office in Amman.

Qualifications:

Graduate degree in IT, digital marketing, media, modern languages, public administration, business administration or any related field.
Familiarity in managing and editing websites, and good knowledge in CMS. 
Familiarity in gender and international frameworks including UNSCR 1325, CEDAW and the Beijing Platform for Action.
Familiarity in National Action Plans and implementation mechanisms.
Substantive knowledge on issues surrounding gender equality, women’s empowerment and women’s international human rights
Minimum 3 years experience working with governmental agencies, non-governmental organizations and international organizations.
Excellent communication skills.
Excellent translation and computer skills.
Administrative and logistical working experience.
Proficiency in English written and spoken.
