Major Functions
Performs various activities ranging from oil and gas field evaluation, development and production. Devises methods to improve oil and gas well production and determines the need for new or modified tool designs. Oversees drilling and completion and offers technical advice to achieve economic and satisfactory progress for drilling activities. Reports to the Executive Director, E & P.
Essential Functions
Petroleum Engineering
• Liaises with geoscientists, drilling, production and reservoir engineers in interpreting well-logging results and predicting production potential
• Compiles detailed development plans of reservoir performance using mathematical models to ensure maximum economic recovery
• Selects optimal tubing size and the variety of suitable equipment within the well for different functions
• Designs the completion - the part of the well that communicates with the reservoir rock and fluids
• Designs systems that help the well to flow, for example using submersible pumps
• Manages problems of fluid behaviour and production chemistry
• Evaluates and recommending flow rate enhancement by using, for example, hydraulic fracturing (to force fluid into a well and fracture the rock) and acid treatment (to erode the rock and improve flow path)
• Manages and controls wells with branches at the bottom (horizontal and multilateral wells)
• Uses well and reservoir surveillance data to manage the value of the reservoir and decide on appropriate engineering interventions
• Understands and manages how a set of wells interact
• Manages contractor relationships in relation to health, safety and environmental performance
• Supervises well-site operations personnel and managing staff at all levels, including the training and supervision of crew members, to ensure that everyone works as a team in order to meet deadlines
• Liaises with separate departments to ensure correct progress with projects
• Takes responsibility for the maintenance of equipment
Reporting and Communication
• Reports to Executive Director, E & P on all work related issues.
• Maintains and exhibits excellent working relationships with all Crescent staff.
Continuous Development of Position
• Conducts regular studies and research within the petroleum industry and recommends subsequent actions particularly in the area of exploration and reservoir development.
Minimum Educational, Technical Qualifications/Certifications Required
• Bachelor degree in Petroleum Engineering
Minimum Professional Experience Required
• 0-2 years of professional in a related field
